Everyone knows Valentine's Day is coming on February 14th, the day for couples happily in love. But what if you're unhappily committed to your significant other? You know the type - never sends cards, never brings presents, never even notices the day. Well, maybe you should recognize a different holiday instead. February 4th through 10th is national Dump Your Significant Jerk Week In this unusual but necessary week maybe you need to pose the question, "Why on earth are you staying with this loser?" In honor of this week we present you with a few tips on how to succesfully end a relationship.
1- The other person must be the first to know. Nothing is worse than hearing from friends before they hear it from you. So, make sure the other person officially knows you it is over and you are now single.
2- Don't take the easiest route when breaking up by leaving a voicemail or sending an e-mail, try to end the relationship in person.
3 - Make your intentions perfectly clear by being precise with no room for interpretation.
4- Don't open old wounds, the past should be left in the past.
5- Make a point of telling the other person that the decision to end your relationship has to do with you, in this manner you don't cite the other persons flaws.
6- Leave communication up to the other party, by giving the other person time to heal and contact you when ready if they desire to do so.
7- Don't hesitate, once you've made the decision to have the break up discussion, there is no going back. Stick with your decision unless there is concrete evidence that what caused you to want to end things truly will change.
8.Be prepared for tears, chances are this is going to be a difficult situation.
