It’s no secret that most people frequently spend more money in a store than just the value of the Gift card they walked in
with. The new study reports that most recipients will spread their card redemption over two
visits to a store and this creates more opportunity for store traffic and additional sales.
There are two peaks in the value of the cards that will be purchased. In the past
year, only 5% of study repsondents bought cards under $20 in value. 39% of
the cards bought were in the $20-$20 range, 11% were between $30 and $49; and 40% were for $50 or more.
Half the purchasers said they’re more likely to buy a card that comes in a box. And close to half are interested
in buying the new cards that have built-in CD or DVD content.
