Karen Minnis former Oregon House Speaker has recently drawn partisan fire and many personal attacks regarding money she has donated from her campaign funds.  Anyone who knows Salem knows that Karen Minnis is generally regarded as ethical and very honest.  Oregon politicians are permitted to donate leftover campaign funds to charities or other campaigns, but it is illegal to convert the funds into personal use. The House Majority Leader Dave Hunt, D-Gladstone who aspires to be the next House speaker was the one who criticized Minnis. 

Minnis was recently hired as a consultant to raise money for a number of Republican offices in Salem. Minnis has a successful track record of being one of the Republicans most successful fund raisers. Hiring consultants to raise money is just good political business. It happens all the time. Minnis is very effective at fundraising she knows all the major contributors - that’s why she is in big demand.

House Republican Leader Bruce Hanna (R- Roseburg) had the following to say regarding the Gresham Outlook story, in which House Majority Leader Dave Hunt (D-Gladstone) accuses Rep. Karen Minnis (R-Wood Village) of possible impropriety:  "Rep. Dave Hunt's reckless, unethical and bitterly partisan attacks on Rep. Karen Minnis' character are inappropriate and false.

"Rep. Minnis has done excellent work for the caucus. We have appreciated the opportunity to leverage her years of experience in Oregon's political process. "Should Rep. Minnis seek legal action for defamation; House Republicans will stand firmly behind her.”Oregonians deserve better from their elected leaders. I am deeply disappointed that such a dangerous accusation would come from a State Representative, especially one elected to lead his party."

Karen Minnis has done nothing illegal or unethical. This is the same old tired Democratic tactics of dishonesty, distortion and character defamation.
