What's Up With Car Batteries?October 29th, 2007 Gadgets and on-board systems sap car battery life What's Up With Car Batteries?
Car batteries don't last as long as they used to, but it's not the batteries' fault. A steady increase in electrical accessories is shortening battery life. Cars have everything from DVD screens and big sound systems to built-in refrigerators and cup holders that heat coffee and cool soft drinks.
When you add power needed for navigation systems, networks of electronic ignition systems and electrical outlets for computer use, it's easy to understand why batteries are stressed. Parked cars still use the battery to charge cellphones and for electricly fans that run after the car is turned off. Car makers say batteries can last twice as long if they are properly cared for and not exposed to extreme temperatures.
