Traveling through the Historical Oregon Wine Country is a wonderful experience. Oregon Wine Country is rich in tradition and appreciation for great wine and a scenic and romantic destination for wine tasting. Located along Hwy 99W it includes cities like Amity, Lafayette, Sherwood, Newberg, Yamhill, McMinnville, and Dundee. The Eola Hills area has some of the finest views in the Willamette Valley. Oregon Wine Country is home to more than 250 wineries producing some of the world's most acclaimed wines. Less than an hour outside of Portland, the verdant Oregon wine country is home to some of America's most admired pinot noirs (and other varietals).
With a dozen wineries an easy drive from the city center, Oregon's wine country is a perfect day trip for Portland visitors. Many wineries offer tours. The Yamhill County Wineries Association offers a free map and guide to the local wineries. Visiting three wineries per day is plenty. Wineries that produce legendary pinot noir sprinkle the hills. Most wineries do charge a minimal. Even the largest wineries in Oregon are small by the world's standards.
No trip to Oregon wine country is complete without a visit to the Ponzi Vineyards tasting room. The Dundee Bistro or the Ponzi Wine Bar. I'd say Oregon wine country is a great place to start for your first experience.
