The Sapporo Bell A Friendship Gift For Portland 777 N.E. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. Portland, Oregon
The Sapporo Bell is a friendship gift from Portland’s Sister City, Sapporo, Japan. Sapporo is the sister city with which Portland's officials have cultivated the most contacts. Installed near the entrance to the Oregon Convention Center, this magnificent bronze bell rings intermittently throughout the day. It has a plaque that reads "Bell Circles II by Robert Coburn 1990 Sounds of Asian bells mark the landscape, orienting the listener to time and space while expressing the link between Oregon and the Pacific Rim." The Sapporo Bell is a reminder of the influence Japanese culture has on Portland.
