Cardiovascular diseases, including stroke, are our nation's No. 1 killer. To urge Americans to join the battle against these diseases, since 1963 Congress has required the president to proclaim February "American Heart Month." During American Heart Month, thousands of volunteers visit their neighbors. Their goal is to raise funds for research and education and pass along information about heart disease and stroke.
Inspiring change is a key part of how the American Heart Association helps build healthier lives in communities across the nation. Their new mission is to build healthier lives, free of cardiovascular diseases and stroke. The volunteeers and staff of the American Heart Association are led by this same powerful mission. In turn, they are charged with helping inspire others to get moving-and changing. In the past year, they have lauched three broad campaigns about key issues:
-START!: a walking for fitness cause movement that encourages healthier living. -WHAT MOVES U: a national campaign with the NFL that inspires kids to get more active. -FACE THE FATS: is raising awarenes about how to reduce trans fats and eat sensibly.
