Central Florida's "Land of 1000 Lakes" allow you to experience all the freedoms in Florida flying. Based in Winter Haven just 25 minutes from Disney World you can escape to a world that is free from noise on the radios and busting airspace minimums. Our Seaplane world is centered on the "Basics of flying" stick and rudder and head out of the cockpit. We know your land plane flying skills will also be improved after flying our seaplanes.
Let one of our professional instructors acquaint you with the most aviation fun you'll ever have flying. Jack Brown Seaplane Base is located at Winter Haven Municipal Airport (GIF) and will help you get your seaplane rating add-on to your current FAA Pilots license.
The single engine sea rating takes two days. We fly about five hours of training in that time frame you will be given instruction in basic water handling, including idle, plow and step taxi procedures. You will also be shown how to properly execute a normal takeoff and landing from the water. Each student pilot will progresses to the more advanced maneuvers including crosswind take-off and landings, rough water and glassy water techniques. Emergency procedures are also covered as well as maximum performance procedure. You'll be surprised how well a plane sails in the water as well.
In the end you will learn how to taxi and maneuver an airplane on the water, read the weather environment and suitability of picking your landing area. You will also learn better plane judgment, such as choice of runway, left or right hand traffic pattern flow and finding the parking spot of your choice.
